SAFETY GUIDELINES

Volunteering

A few pointers to keep us all safe.

Be sensible!

USE YOUR COMMON SENSE!

Don’t take risks.

> Stay on the pavements at all times.

> When crossing the roads, please take care - especially if you have children in your group.

> Wear bright clothes – Hi-Viz if you have it.

> Think about the weather and prepare accordingly – sun hat, cream, rain coat, wellies!

> Take water with you.

> When you are sent your route, you will be given a number to call in case of emergency.  Please save it to your phone.

> Wear gloves on both hands.  We would prefer these to be re-useable so that you can wash them afterwards.

> Try not to touch your face during the pick.  If you have to, remove your gloves first and use sanitising gel.

> Do not pick up anything that is sharp – needles, broken glass for example.  Make a note where you have found these and tell us at the end.

> Do not pick up any large items that you are unable to carry – for examples items that have been fly tipped.  Make a note of where you have found these and tell us at the end.  We will inform the council of fly tipping.

> Do not pick up un-bagged dog mess.

> If you are walking on a thin pavement, try to walk facing the traffic.  Before bending to pick up litter, check for traffic.  Be aware and vigilant at all times.

> Before picking up items from the curb, check for traffic.  If possible, have one member of your team looking out and warning others about traffic.

> If you get into any trouble or get lost, call the number given to you and we will help you.

IF YOU DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING SOMETHING - DON'T DO IT.
