VILLAGE LITTER PICK

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL WHO TOOK PART!

Monday 31 August 2020

56 members of the Parish volunteered their time on the August Bank Holiday Monday to tidy up Woodhouse, Woodhouse Eaves, The Beacon Hill country park and the Broombriggs trail.  The event was a huge success and we would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part.

Everyone who registered was given an area to litter pick.  This created a team of socially distanced litter pickers who covered every road, track and side street of our Parish.  We are lucky that our village already has a regular group who litter pick on a Tuesday so our environment is never really bad.  Volunteers were encouraged to look out for the smaller micro plastics that can blow along our streets and get caught in bushes.  Every group brought back at least one bag of litter.  Bad areas, such as the Windmill produced 6 bags full!

Sadly, every group found disposable gloves, masks and bottles of sanitiser proving that even in our area the pandemic is causing rubbish that is not being disposed of responsibly.

Local business contributed to a wonderful hamper of plastic free items with everyone taking part going into the draw.  Thanks for Agora, Home of Handmade, Knead Good Bread, Johnsons and Fresh for their contributions.  The lucky winning group took home fresh fruit, jam, cordial, bread and cleaning products.

We hope to repeat the day again and if you would like to be on our mailing list, please email wheplasticfree@hotmail.com or check our website events page.
